Description
Ladotyri cheese is produced only in Lesvos (Protected Designation of Origin), and takes its name after the traditional technique used for preservation; before refrigeration, cheese heads were put in jugs filled with olive oil. The name "ladotyri" means "oiled cheese" in Greek and the Mytilini olive oil adds a unique aroma and taste to the cheese. Company Mystakelli Dairy Products is following this traditional method of preparation and packages ladotyri in a way that the cheese can preserve its unique olive oil characteristic.
Although Company Mystakelli Dairy Products was established in 2015, it is the continuance of a traditional dairy cottage-industry that produces hard and soft cheeses in Mantamados, Lesvos Island, since 1962. Mystakelli cheeses are now produced with modern equipment but using the experience of the same personnel that during all those years with continuous improvements offered to consumers the excellent steady quality of the now renowned Mystakelli cheeses.
