Currants are dried grapes with an intense-sweet but slightly-tangy taste. Corinthian currant "Vostizza" is a Protected Designation of Origin Product (PDO) certified by Agrocert, and is the dried product of the small black seedless Corinthian grape. Vostizza currants are the finest currants produced anywhere in the world; most of the world’s currants are currently produced at the west coast of Peloponnese (southern Greece), in a small area of about 250 square miles extending from Corinth in the north, to Kalamata in the south. The Vostizza currant benefits from the favorable soil and climatic conditions of Peloponnese, because the black Corinthian grape used, is mainly cultivated in the hills surrounding the town of Aeghion. This outstanding fruit in its dried form, proudly bears the ancient name of that town, "Vostizza" where the currant is exclusively produced.
