Description
The Chios mastic resin is the main ingredient in this gum; Mastiha Chiou chewing gum contains natural Chios Mastic and Mastic oil. Mastic gum, or Mastiha is obtained from the Mastic trees in the island of Chios (Eastern Greece), the trees produce "tears" that are collected by hand and, either packed as crystals, or ground to a powder. Mastiha has a distinctive aroma, a taste that resembles to some degree to pine and licorice, and a herbal aftertaste; its taste and smoothness may vary by palate. Mastiha's distinctive flavor becomes refreshing when chewed, it has been chewed since the antiquity as the first chewing gum, and has proven health benefits; for centuries it has been used for gum and oral health, as it has a strong anti-microbial action and prevents the formation of dental plaque and dental cavities.
